THANK YOU DEVS.Ĭontent wise, I felt I more than got my money's worth. You aren't running around catching literal trash bags or ice cream cones. And as silly as the dialogue is sometimes, it seems like they took their monster creations very seriously - which is GOOD. That isn't an issue with Nexomon: Extinction. Like you will have a starter / base monster and it evolves into something completely unrecognizable or just flat out stupid. Kind of a small thing, but something in these types of games that really annoys me is when evolutions don't "make sense". It's all just really good, it's hard to even expand on these areas. The map, the art style, the monster designs. That light-hearted, jokey dialogue really brings a tonal balance to the overall game which, again, I really came to appreciate and enjoy. And to be honest, the story itself, at it's core. There were multiple 4th wall breaking moments that made me chuckle out loud. and early on it turned me off, but the deeper I got, the more I came to appreciate it. As other reviews have mentioned, the writing is VERY "meta" and joke heavy. Characters actually have real motivations for what they are doing. guess what? They actually have a purpose and reason to show up multiple times. Is it God of War level story? No, but for this genre of game, it more than surpassed my expectations. The game actually gives you a REASON to play it out, story-wise. And where Pokemon lacks in those departments, Nexomon: Extinction has in spades. too flat, they take themselves too seriously, characters and the world feel like cardboard cutouts and nothing really matters. Pokemon games, for me, have gotten too samey. The story actually has heft to it and the characters have a semblance of substance. What really kept me engaged was the story and the characters. Eventually turned into wanting to get a little deeper, find more secrets, learn more about the story, grind to level and evolve my mon, etc. But what started as a couple of hours one night, sending screenshots to my friends making fun of the game. I originally bought this game so I could dive into it and make fun of it for being a lame Pokemon rip off.
